The rain stayed away, the course was well marked and the
volunteers were friendly. What more could you ask for?
The Inaugural Corvallis Half Marathon was a great success!
Over 1700 runners gathered near Reser Stadium on Sunday April 10th,
2011 at 9:30 am to participate in the first Corvallis Half
Marathon. The race director and volunteer team delivered a
great race.
The beautiful course wove through OSU campus, then went up and
round the Midge Cramer path through Bald Hill, up Walnut and then
back to campus finishing on the 50 yard line in Reser
Stadium. In my opinion finishing in Reser Stadium was quite a
treat. It made me feel like a famous athlete, rounding the
corner onto the field with the crowd roaring in my ear!
Stephanie Snyder led the way for the women during
most of the course, until during the final stretch in Reser Stadium
when Becky Manuel (1:24:19) kicked it up a notch to cross the line
first. Snyder came in right behind her for second place
(1:24:23). Paris Edwards of Corvallis finished third (1:26:25).
This was the first half marathon she ever ran in!
For the men, Michael Wisniewski easily took first place with a
time of 1:07:16 (about 6 minutes ahead of his
competition). He didn't even look tired at the end. Tim
Harder finished 2nd (1:13:41) with Lindon Powell (1:14:30) trailing
him in 3rd place. 10 of the top 15 male finishers were from
Corvallis (including the 1st and 3rd place winners).
Here are everyone's Race
Results.
But for the rest of us, who are not finishing in the top, the
race was a great experience. And finishing on the field at
Reser Stadium with my name being called out over the loudspeaker,
made me feel like a winner.
